Photographer | Educator
My work explores the interplay between individuals, cultures, and environment across diverse regions, including New Zealand, Cambodia, Africa, and Europe, encompassing urban environments, mountainous terrains, and coastal areas. As a photographer based in the United Kingdom, I am interested in the social narratives and environmental contexts that define each location's unique character. In my role as a university tutor, I am dedicated to mentoring emerging creatives and promoting academic initiatives within the institution.
About me
Emma is a freelance photographer with over 20 years of experience. She holds a Master’s degree in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography, where she honed her technical skills and developed a deep understanding of ethical storytelling.
Her early years included work as a picture editor for Charities WDC and BEAM, where she refined her editorial judgment and deepened her commitment to conservation and social justice. As a University tutor, she teaches emerging journalists through one-on-one coaching, workshops, and seminars. Her approach encourages authenticity, enabling students to create honest and impactful work that inspires and motivates others.
Over the years, she has covered a wide range of areas, including social documentaries, sports and event photography, photojournalism, and portraiture - creating intimate, character-driven portraits that reveal personality and context. She now specialises in her first love, Travel Photography, combining her passion for world travel and social commentary.
Throughout her career, she has worked with a diverse range of organisations, including:
The Times UK, The Australian, the Olympic British Bobsleigh team - BBSA, Girls Who Grind Coffee and Coppafeel, the University of Jadavpur/Sportzworkz, the British Council, BEAM/ PwC, Tanoshi, Charity WDC, Trinity Hospice, Frome Times, University of the Arts London (UAL)and Bath Spa University (BSU).
Each collaboration has not only enhanced her practice but also significantly impacted the organisations she's worked with. She's helped them tell their stories in a compelling and authentic way, strengthening their brand and mission. She collaborates closely with clients at each stage, ensuring their objectives are met while upholding the highest standards of visual integrity. She looks forward to new opportunities to document compelling narratives and to support the next generation of photographers in their creative journeys.
